The services in the churches were well i attended, and the. coming and feeing 1 of the. congregations gave the streets an aspect of animation,, which disappeared later in the afternoon, when the West End, Without 'buses, and with only a few taxis and a stray pedestrian or two moving, resembled a deserted city. . The hotels and reetauraiybs, later in the evening, attracted a -number of diners out, but altogether Christmas Day-this year was a charaoteristkailly English family festival, with 'little public celebration. A surprising feature of the Christinas holidays was the sunny, almost springlike, Weather} the .majority of people revelling in outdoor sports. It was also mild on the Continent. Messages from GeneVa state that hordes of Alpine tourists were disappointed to find grass and flowers instead of enow. , The Royal Christmas party at Sandringham included, the. King and Queen, the Queen Mother, the King and Queen of Norway, the Prince of Wales, ftince Henry, and Prince George.
