HIGH TREASON
Tima PRESIDENT OIF GERMANY TECHNICAL GUILT. Beater’s Telegram. BERLIN, December 25. The Court at Magdeburg, in the prosecution of an editor for libelling the President, Herr Elbert, held Ebert technically guilty of high treason for associating with the strike movement in 1918, oven though he was seeking to control it.
The verdict was that Ebert did urge the munition workers to hold out, and therefore he juridicaolly committed high treason.
The Public Prosecutor has appealed against the verdict, CABINET STANDS BY EBERT. The Nationalist and anti-Republican papers are making political capital out of the verdict, and are demanding that Ebert shall resign the Presidency. There was a significant sequel when the Vioc-Chancellor, Dr Jarres, Herr Streseman, and six other members of the Cabinet called on the President and handed him a resolution expressingtbeir complete confidence in him. OHSerr Streseman’s organ, “Die Zeit,” announces that the Foreign Minister declines to join a Cabinet based on the present three-party coalition.
