BANK ROBBER CAUGHT

(Received December 26. 5.5 p.m.) OTTAWA, December 25. Five men drove in a motor-car to tho front of the Royal Bank in the mining town of Nanaimo, on the collieries’ pay-day. While two of them guarded the entrance, four others collected £3OOO and escaped across the American border. Daring the robbery the bank manager was imprisoned in the vault, ami the leader of the robbers threatened him in characteristically strong language. A sample of the language was communicated to Detective Tennant, of Seattle, who exclaimed: ‘T know who that is. He is Ross Watson” (a former Seattle policeman). Later Watson and three other men were arrested, and identified by the bank officials, and part of the booty was recovered. HOLD-UP IN NEW ORLEANS SINGLE ROBBER TAKES £3OOO. CLERKS LOOKED IN VAULT. (Sydney “Sun” Cable.) NEW YORK, December 25. A bold Christmas hold-up is reported. A local robber calmly walked into the State Bank at New Orleans when the doors were opened at 9 o’clock yesterday, and drew a shotgun from under his coat. He locked four clerks in a vault and took £3OOO. The vault was equipped with a de. vice permitting it to be opened from the inside, ana the clerks freed themselves when the robber reached the sidewalk. They shouted for help, and a policeman came running up. The robber wounded him with buckshot, and then commandeered a passing automobile, compelling the driver to speed with him, and so escaped.
