The crowds which visited the city and suburb® on Christmas .Eve were much smaller than in previous years. This ia to some extent accounted for by the cold southerly wind. Inquiries among retailers showed that the volume of business in most respects has been up to tho average of previous years, but the Christmas shopping jperiod commenced this year much earlier than Usual. Tho naval dirigible Los Angeies will fly over New York, on Christmas Eve, strung with lights like an aerial Christmas tree, while a radio station broadcasts messages from Santa Claus and Christmas Hymns.
