Tire new system which was inaugurated on the New Zealand Railways lastMonday of hooking seats and sleeping, bertha orpthe trains 14 days ahead instead of four, days as under....-the. old system has evidently , been appreciated by thg "general public, for at tlie central booking office in Willis street the bookings have considerably exceeded 1000 a day for the Christmas holidays, and this-will have thp effect of ton•stdern{>ty (rediaving . the' congestion, whiqh has hitherto existed, especially preceding the holiday periods at Christmap, New Year and'Easter. , OPENING TO-NIGHT.' ' The accommodation at .the central, office, while large enough for : the average business, is by n 9 means too large; 1 for the holiday bookings, and the increased stiff i@ kept very busy. Up. to last night the bookings were up to the end-ot the year, and to-day’s will be the first tickets issued for the New Year. ' ■ -■ _■, . In order to giro the public further facilities for booking their early and thus reducing the rush .next week, arrangements have been made' for the centra!'office to be open from 7.30 to .9 p.m. this evening. • It should be remembered that reserves can only be, made for joumeysof 100 miles, and over, either in the 'North or South Islands. , - , i ' THE LIMITED FULL. 'Since the extended booking period came into operation the new “Limited” to AuOkla’nd has .'already been fuljy booked up for to-day and December 22nd, 23rd and 24th. This tram is limited to nine cars. , - In addition; to the usual service the 8.35 p.m. train which was provided for. in the original Christmas pro--gramme for the 24th, will be run on December 23rd and 24th. A large numiber of telegraphic reserves are also being dealt with doily at Thomdon Station. . ' /
