SURRENDER OF KUT
* TURKS DECLINED £2,000,000. A SECRET DISCLOSED. Australian ami N:Z Cable Association. (Received December 17, 9.30 p.m.) LONDON,. December 16. The latest volume of the “Official His. tory of the War” discloses that the late General Townshend, oh the authority of the War Office, offered the Turkish commander £1,000,000, and also the surrender of the guns, if the Kut garrison were/ allowed freedom on parole. The Turks declined this, and also a later ■ offer of £2,000.000, shortly after which hunger compelled the unconditional surrender of the garrison.
