A WOMAN’S RUSE
HOW THIEF WAS TRAPPED SITS UP AT NIGHT AND WAITS FOR INTRUDER. POWDER ON THE FLOOR. Through the foresight of Kate Forster, a shopkeeper, of Seatoun, who, when she thought a man was visiting her shop at night and stealing some of her goods, placed powder on the floor to see if it was» disturbed, Sydney Charles Leckie was arrested, and brought before Mr E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Kate Forster gave evidence that when she saw the powder disturbed she waited up at night to see if the thief would revisit her, and on the third evening she heard someone trying to open the front floor. The thief then went round to the back door, and Forster caught him When approached by detectives Leckie admitted the thefts, and Baid that he had visited the shop on previous occasions. He opened the door with a jtey. The, magistrate committed him for sentence on th© charge, and for stealing a torch he was sentenced to 21 days’ imprisonment.
