M. HERRIOT’S ILLNESS
RESIGNATION POSSIBLE. GOVERNMENT MAY FALL. Australian and N. 7, Cable Association. LONDON. December 15. The Paris correspondent of “The Times,” discussing the possibility of a French Ministerial crisis, as the result of H. Herriot’s illness, points out that in the course of the next few weeks many international questions of the highest importance will claim the attention of the French Government. He says there is no doubt that when M. Herriot is sufficiently recovered he will be ordered to take a long rest . He is said to be progressing satisfactorily, but the indications are that it will he at least a fortnight before he i- able to get up. Meanwhile the prospect ol his prolonged absence is causing considerable anxiety among his political friends, who are much perturhed in regard to the situation which would arise if he were to resign. They realise that it is only M. Herriot’s personal influence that has hitherto induced the Socialists to support the purely Radical Government and if his influence were withdrawn their adhesion might no longer V possible.
