PORT GALEDONIAN WRECKED
AUSTRALIAN TRADER LOST. The newa that the Finnish fourmasted barque has come to grief with all hands on the French coast will be received with regret in Australian shipping circles, as her loos removes one of the finest sailing vessels ever connected with Australian trade. Although she was not what one would term a regular trader to these parts, she made frequent trips to various Australian ports, the last being with timber from Norway to Melbourno last year. After discharge there she went to Newcastle where a cargo of coal was loaded for Chili. The Port Caledonia, which must not be oonfused with the Norwegian fourmasted barque Caledonia, was built at Greenock in 1892, and passed into Finnish hands some yeans ago, hut unlike many other vessels disposed of to foreign ownerß, she retained her original name. She was 283 ft Sin long, with a beam of 43ft, and a depth of 24ft 2in, while her gross tonnage was 2426 and nett 2246.
