WELLINGTON COUNCIL MEETS. -1925 OPEN SEASON FOE DEER. LIMITS AS TO GAME. At the meeting of the council of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, held last night, the present (Air L. O. Hi Tripp) in the chair, a letter was received from _ the Internal Affairs Department pointing out the desirability of gazetting as soon as possible the warrants in respect of an open season for deer. The department asked for the - society’s recommendations as to the dates of the open season for the -Wellington district, -and drew attention itq the action taken in respect of the Rdtorua district last year in providing no restriction on the Dumber of deer of either sex (that might be taken or killed, or on the number : of points in a stag's head. i The council decided to recommend that the 1925 open season for deer be from April lst to May 31st, and that the number of stags to.be taken or killed an the Maaterton area bo limited to-four, up to ten points and over, and, to two in the rest of the society's district, with no limit in either area as to the numbei of hinds, that may be shot. . With reference to-r.ntive game, ducks and swans, it was decided, to-limit the open season to two months: (May and June)# with a limit of 30 head per day per gun; not more than four out of the twenty to be swans.
