The’ insurance on the house was £6OO, and- on the contents £460. *i • Messrs B. R. Rayner, W. A. Matthews, W. Boston, W. Earl, D. Moncrieff, J. W. Churchouse and A. Maras have been elected a management committee of the Carterton Swimming Club. Mr L. J. Fairbrother has been elected club captain. , At the inquest concerning the death of William McLaren de < Villers, aged 60 years, who was fouad. dead on the property of W. E. C. Tylee, Upper Plain, where he .was employed, a verdict of heart failure .was returned*. . Mr A. J. Denny has been appointed’ conductor of the' Martin-borough Municipal Band. Bro. E. Newlands, of Stonehenge Lodge, Masterton, has been elected district president o( the Druids Lodge for the ensuing yeaT. A five-roomed house at Mauriceville West, owned- and occupied by Mrs Larsen, was destroyed by fire on Monday. A considerable amount of money was i destroyed in the-fire. James Maxwell was sentenced at Pahiatua to a month’s imprisonment for the theft of articles valued at £5 from the residence-'of Mrs Peters, at Pahiatua.
