MATCH DRAWN

AUSTRALIA’S SECOND INNINGS, FIVE WICKETS FOR 257. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received December 8, 10.15 p.m.) BRISBANE. December 8. - Australia opened the-second, innings in, a confident fashion, Hendry beginning with the first ball of the over, while O’Connor batted right up to the form set by Hendry, and lacked nothing by comparison with, his more accomplished colleague. Hendry was evidently out for a merry life. He stopped in front of the wicket to tut, one. from Tyldesley, but- failed to connect, and was out leg-before. Hendry, gave a good display of forceful cricket. RICHARDSON AND KIPPAX. Excluding Chapman’s hard hitting, nothing finer wad seen' in the match than the. cricket placed by Richardson and Kippax. The former scored' with classic strokes in front and behind the wicket, hie powerful driving: strokes sending the ball like a shot to the fence. His glancing was also brUliant. SPECTATORS’ HOPES REALISED.. Queenslanders wanted to see these two test aspirants right at their top, and the wish has now been Ratified. Douglas did not treat the match too seriously. When he called Hendren, Sutcliffe, S'andham, and Chapman to the bowling crease he gave the batsmen a chance to open out. They took advantage of the opportunity by scoring freely, a,nd after this the total bounded along, both batsmen frequently hitting boundaries. INTEREST LOST. She match lost, much of its interest in the closing stages, in which there was little to suggest that first-ciass cricket was in, progress. Douglas completed the farce by giving Strudwick the ball, Freeman taking the gloves, and there was great hilarity when Freeman stumped Oxenham off Strudwick. -The latter went up the pitch and shook hands with Freeman. The batsmen, of course, were all out to hit, not taking Things seriously, as a draw waa inevitable. The scores are: AUSTRALIA. First innings 526 Second Innings.
