WELLINGTON CLUB TOURNEY. MISSES GAMBRTLL AND BELL 00 WELL. The Heretaunga links looked a perfect picture yesterday when the championship of the Wellington Ladies* Golf Club -was commenced. The weather was perfect, although a little on the warm side tor golf In &pite of the conditions, however, there were no outstanding performances, although some of the games were closely contested. Miss E. Bell, who beat Mrs J. P. Firth 7 up and 6 to play, went out in 41, against par 38, and came home in 41 also, against bogey 39, making a total of 82 against 77. Miss Gambrill, who defeated Mrs Richardson 5 and 8, did an 83, which included a penalty ior a lost ball. She came borne in 39, playing vory steadily. The following are the details: Miss Bell beat Mrs Firth, 7 and 6. Miss Ewan beat Mrs Stout, by default. Miss West beat Miss Harcourt, 5 and 4. Mrs Weston beat Miss Ward, 6 and o. Miss Gambrill beat Mrs Ricfiurdson. 5 and 3. Mr** Holmes beat Mrs A. Young, by default. Mrs Hayman beat Miss Wheeler, s’ and 1. Mrs Marchbanks beat Mrs Nathan, 9 and 8. Mrs Sclanders (the present holder of the championship), Mrs Webster, and Mrs T. Young had byes. In the junior championship Miss Plimmor defeated Miss Dyer, 1 up on the nineteenth and Mrs Morris defeated Miss Richardson, 1 up. Tho second round will be played today, and the semi-finals to-moiyow, leaving the finals for Saturday morning.
