BAXTER WINS WELL OUTPOINTS DEM SKY OVER FIFTEEN ROUNDS. GOOD PRELIMINARIES. Before a packed house at the Town Hall last night Elm Baxter outpointed Paul Demsky in a boxing contest over fifteen rounds. The winner Ivor* almost every round and proved one of the cleverest fighters that has ever, appeared before the "Wellington public. He varied his attack and his defence was excellent. Demsky was outboxed, but he was game to the core. The officials, to whom great credit is due, were as follow: —Referee, Mr Earl Stewart; judges, Messrs J. E. Staples and B. A. Guise; timekeepers, Messrs G. Mellish and T. H. Coltman; official seconds, Messrs H. Hull and N. Coffey; announcer, Mr A. Curtayne; stage manager, Mr El Perry. Both boys entered the ring in great condition, and the weights were announced :—Paul Demsky, 9st 91b; Eirn Baxter, 9et 91b. THE CONTEST DESCRIBED. Demsky did most of the leading in the first round, in which he scored nicely on several occasions to the body. Baxter retailiated with both hands to the face. The round was marked by clever boxing by both boys. In the second Demsky rushed his opponent to the ropes, scoring with both hands, but Baxter changed his stance to .“southpaw/' and had Demsky puzzled. He scorea frequently with a right lead and inade Demsky miss with his counters. At the beginning of the third round Baxter scored with a solid left to the chin, but Demsky rushedi him to the ropes and worked both hands to the body. There was a lull, in which both were sparring for an opening, and then Baxter send his left hook home again. Demsky replied with the same weapon. DEMSKY STILL PUZZLED. Baxter forced the pace in the fourth and hig “southpaw” stance was still puzzling Demsky. Baxter was moving very fast on his feet and kept poking out his right. In the fifth Demsky was the aggressor, but his opponent either stopped or back-moved most of the Queenslander's leads. Demsky scored with a good right to the side of the head, but Baxter replied with his left. Demsky was a little too eager and swung a lot of punches wildly. Demsky scored with two light lefts at the beginning of the sixth, out Baxter, who was showing clever footwork, connected frequently with rights to the face. Demeky smothered nicely at times, but he could not make up the deficiency in points, DEMSKY DOING BETTER. Demsky swung wildly at the beginning of, the seventh, but landed a couple of rights to the body soon afterwards. He was now doing better than he had previously and the round ended slightly in his favour, although Baxter 6ent home both (hands at the end; of the round. Baxter played a merry tattoo with his right in the eighth, and Demeky swung a right: to the eride of the head. After a brief lull Demsky rushed in and swung both gloves to the head, but Baxter eluded 1 two further swings, and then followed a rapid exchange of rights and lefts. The ninth saw both boxing cleverly and each found the other a difficult taxget. Demsky, however, was putting more effort in swings than his Opponent, who sparring for his openings and timing his punches better. TOE-TOTOL FIGHTING. There was a fine bit of .toe-to-toe fighting at the close of the round. Baxter, rushed Demsky to the ropes in the tenth and the latter scored in the in-fighting. Baxter connected with' a solid left to the chin, but Demsky blocked a second attempt with the same hand. In the eleventh Baxter was still boxing cleverly and Demsky had slowed, down again, ana Baxter scored repeatedly with both hands In the next round, however, Demsky 1 rushed in swinging both hands, but with very little effect, and the round! was a little quieter than the previous ones. Baxter being content to elude the swings of his opponent and score occasionally with lightning rights: A GOOD ROUND. The Devil's session, saw Demsky again rash in from his corner with little effect, but he made Baxter miss badly. The southpaw had worried Demsky since the first session. The fourteenth saw Demsky Siring and miss again, and Baxter landed a solid right to the chin, which rattled his opponent. Demeky appeared! to be in a bad way and Baxter played lightly with his right to the face. At the beginning of the last round Baxter' rushed Demsky to the ropes and scored with his right. He evaded Demsky's straight lefts and in the in-fighting held his own. The round closed with Baxter the aggressor and he won wfell.
