GOLF CONTEST
WOMEN AGAINST MEN RESULT OF GAMES PLAYED AT MIDDLEMORE LINKS. PROFESSIONALS COMPETITION. T*iv* Press Association. AUCKLAND, September 15. Tlio animal golf fixture between teams of women and men was played at Middlemore during the week-end, tne result being a win for the men. who thus avenged the very severe defeat inflicted on them at Heretaunga last year. The men’s team was a very strong one, but a number of the women players were unable to make the trip to Auckland, and their team was slightly weaker than it might have lean, though all the players were prominent in golf tournaments last year-. Foursomes and singles were played. In the foursomes each side played on a handicap, the women’s handicaps being decided on their “par” and the men’s on “bogey.” The women played from their own tees, but went down so badly that in the singles which followed they were allowed a difference in handicap, plus two strokes. The Middlemore course favours women players very considerably from the tees compared with Heretaunga. FOURSOME MATCH.
