STRUCK BY WOMAN

POLICE SERGEANT ASSAULTED. “YOU DARE TO SPEAK TO ME, YOU CAD.” Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, September 12. At the Police Court a married woman was fined £3 for assaulting a police sergeant. The officer atatqd that the accused and another woman rode their hones on to a footpath in Karangahape road to shelter from the rain, and he told the defendant she would have to move her mount into the roadway, but she regarded him disdainfully, and replied “When I am ready.” REFUSED TO GIVE HER NAME, On witness replying that she was breaking .a bylaw, and he would have to take her name unless she moved off, the defendant became heated, and said, “You dare to speak to me, you cad.” She reiterated her refusal to move, or give her name. VICIOUS BLOW STRUCK. Witness then reached for the horse’# bridle, intending to lead it into the road, when the defendant dealt him a viciouß blow with a riding crop, Baying, “How dare you touch a lady’s horse.” She then cantered off to regain her companion, who had discreetly withdrawn during tho argument. Hie defendant was also fined £1 for a breach of the bylaw.
