HUTT VALLEY
NEW HIGH SCHOOL. PLANS NOW IN PREPARATION. The Lender of the Opposition (Mr T. M. Wilford) asked the Minister for Education, ! in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, Whether he had any announcement to make with' regard to the proposals of the Govern- t ment as to educational matters in the •Hutt Valley. The Minister, he said, would recollect that, a huge deputation from the valley had waited upon the Prime Minister and .himself in reference to a grant being made this year for a new high schoolj and from the remarks then made by thp Minister it was expected that an announcement would have been made two months ago. BUILDING TO COST £14,000. The Hon. C. J. Parr replied: The position is as - the hon. -gentleman has stated. Indeed, for some years past th® people of the Hutt Valley have been agitating for a new high school. Ae a mutter of fact, a site was purchased in 1919 by my predecessor, but thero has been nothing done since, for reasons that the hon. gentleman well knows. However, I am glad to be able to tell him that the Public Works Department is preparing, by my instructions, plans for a school estimated to cost £l4,ooo—a big two-storied school; and as soon as they are available, which, I believe, will be in a few weeks now, I will put the plans before Cabinet and ask for a grant.
