SAFER THAN MOLESWORTH ' ’ STREET. HON. MR BOLLARD’S CRITICISM. The Hon. R. F. Bollard (Minister for Internal Affairs) stated last night, in moving 'the second reading of the Motor” Vebicles-Bill, that it was safer to cross the streets of London than to cross Molesworth street. That showed the need for better control of motor traffic. Mr Wilford said that more care should be taken in examining as to their efficiency applicants for motordriyqjs’ licenses. In London, when he applied far, such a license, he was asked ifi.he .was the owner of the car; ■and when,he said yes, he was asked to pay a fee of 6e, and, with nothing more said, was licensed to drive about the streets of London. The regulations were mostly wanted to protect foot passengers from reckless motorists ;■ but there was one town in the Dominion where-there should be a special regulation to protect motorists from the foot passengers who loafed about the streets, to the danger of everbody, without looking where they were going. A member: Where is the town ? Another member: Hutt. (Laughter.) Mr T W. Rhodes (Thames): Petone. (Laughter.)
