SOCCER FOOTBALL
THE FOURTH TEST. TAKING NO CHANCES. The New Zealand selector, Mr B. X>. Salmon, was ’asked yesterday why he had picked such a hot New Zealand team to meet tho Chinese in the fourth Soccer Test match at Christchurch on Saturday. Was there any reason far it? “Yes,” was the reply. “1 think tho Chinese, together with their trainer, Mr Reid, are absolutely out. to win on Saturday, and this is confirmed by the fact that they spelled some of their beet players at InveroaTgil! on Wednesday. Tho test match at Wellington was a moral victory for the Chinese, and tho New Zealand team is a strong one because I honestly think they are callable of heating anything that is not our best. i quite expect they will plav a very bard game, for they are keen to defeat the Nev Zealand team. The fact that they secured five goals against the Chinese cm Wednesday need not be taken into account as Pao, the Chinese goalkeeper, was not up to the rank.”
