The Church of England Synod of the Wellington Diocese passed the following, WssoJjitiiaQ, at the conclusion of its proceedings: “That am the term of th.eir. departure from - the shores of New Zealand is drawing near, the Right Reverend the President of the Bynod be requested, to convey to His Excellency tho Governor-General, Lady Jellicoe, and their family the sincere good wishes of this Synod, and to- express a hope that wherever they go happiness -may. attend them.”
Mr F. H. Bakpwell, sonjqy inspector of schools of” tho Wellington Education district, who retired from the ser-xioe-ori. June 30th, received a presentation from the officers of the depart--meat-} -thev inspectors, and staff or- the hoard, to mark their appreciation of the cordial relations existing between them for many years. In presenting Mr Bakewell with a substantial cheque, Mr A. N. .Burns, inspector,' said that Alt his fellow-officers had found in Mr Bakewell a wise counsellor, and ono ready to help through any difficulties, and willing to assist in any matters even outside their profession. Mr J. Caughley, Director of Education, said that the splendid work which Mr Bakewell had accomplished in the Wellington district wns highly appreciated. Mr G. L. Stewart, secretary of the board, also paid a tribute to Mr Bakewell’s ability and courtesy, and said that the feeling in the office at his retirement was one of regret, for he hail been their friend always. Cheers were given for Mr and Mrs Bakewell.
