HARRIERS

HUTT VALLEY CLUB. Last Saturday’s run of the above club was held at Hutt Park; over a 5) mi&loi course laid by R. Kent and H. Cashmorei some thirty-five runners participating «.i.. ail envying it very much. Three packs took the field with four minutes between each, and all arrived pretty well together, though the slow paok were first in. An exciting finish, which was much appreciated by the spectators, was made by the fast pack. W. Craig managing to arrive first, with F. Sanders, J. Cunningham and C. Bowler closing up behind. A 300 yards run-in, held after the run, •resulted in a tie for first between W. Entwishtle and S. Robinson, with D. Barker third. Next week will be held the club teamsraoe for the Craig rose bowl, the race taking place on Gear Island. BROOKLYN CLUB. With the championships approaching, runs are being made longer and more strenuous, and on Saturday last the above club ran a four-pack for the first time. The trail, of about 7 miles, was laid by L. C. Todd and J. Martin, and commenced from Lyall Bay, led via the sandhills to Fisherman’s Bay, then np the hills and along to tho back of Scots College. Arriving at the Seatoun road a wrong trail was followed by both the slow and fast pack 9, which took the runners through the tunnel to Seatoun, over the hills to Miramar and from thence back to Lyall Bay Tho fast pack gave the «lm<- pack ton minutes start and then made a race of it, Walls. Sherwood and D. Todd being prominent. The latter, however, could not stand up to the pace set by the other two, and after covering about a milo he began to drop hack. leaving Sherwood and Walls to catch the slow pack A handicap race ever the

last 200 resulted as follow:—J. Welker, 1; D. Todd, 2; C. Cornich. 3. The dob were entertained afterwards at tea by Mir and Mrs Walls, to whom N. K. Smellie, club captain, voiced the runners appreciation in a few words. Next week the run will he held from Karori Cemetery.
