MATERNAL MORTALITY
SUCCESS OF CAMPAIGN. IMPROVEMENT EXPECTED. The Hon. Sir Mauli Pomare (Minister for Health) yesterday, expressed himself to a “Times” representative as exceedingly pleased at the auspicious opening of the campaign for the reduction of maternal mortality in New Zealand. The very large attendance at the meeting at Palmerston North was encouraging, and the attention which was paid to the speakers indicated that the campaign was a step in the right direction. He was deeply concerned about the past high rate of maternal mortality, and now that so much light had been thrown upon it, he was convinced that returns in the next year would show a considerable decrease. The women of New Zealand would play a big part in bringing about the reduction.
