ACCIDENT TO CHILD

CITY COUNCIL PAY DAMAGES. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, June 2. A peculiar accident to a. little- girl, three years of age, was the subject of a case set down for hearing at tho Supreme Court to-day, but it was announced that it had been settled out of court. The child, Dorothy Mary Ritchie, rail out of a -gate on to a foot path of a street. An employee of the City Council was cutting grass an the footpath with a horse driven mower which has a long knife projecitlVig like an arm. The child ran into the mower and the knife injured one of her legs. Archibald Ritchie, as guardian, sued the City Council for £lOl6 damages. The case was not called on, the sum of £550 having been accepted in settlement of claim.
