TWO AMERICANS EXALTED. PAPAL ANNOUNCEMENT. Reuter's Teleeram. ROME, March 24. The Pope, at a private consistory, announced that Monsignors Hayes and Mundelein, Archbishops of New York and Chicago, respectively, had been appointed Cardinals. Cardinal HayeS was ordained priest in 1892, and consecrated bishop in 1914. He is a domestic prelate to the Popo. He is 56 years old.

Cardinal Mundelein was ordained :n 1895, and has been Archbishop of Chicago since 1916. He is 53 years old.
