CONTROL OF THE SAAR

INTERESTING APPOINTMENT. ARRANGED BY BRITAIN. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association (Received March 23, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, March. 22. The League of Natiorw Council has made an interesting addition to the Saar Commission, by appointing to it Bartholomew Yoesmann. a native of the Saar. The eon of a butcher, he was orphaned at the age l of 13, and worked for six years as a pickman in the Prussian State mines. Afterwards he was secretary of the Saar Catholic Workmen’s Association, and a member of the Reichstag from 1912 to 1918. The appointment was made largely on the initiative of Viscount Cecil and Lord Parmoor, as the Saar population believed their previous representative was merely an instrument of French policy.
