WAGES BOARD CONSTITUTED. THE ORDER OF REFERENCE. The Hon. J. G. Coates (Minister for Railways) announced yesterday that he has appointed Messrs Heniy Dyke Acland (chairman), Herbert Harry Sterling, Frederick James Jones, Louis Christian Evelin Hamann, Michael Connolly, Matthew Joseph Maok, and Michael John O’Connor to inquire into and report to him regarding suoh matters affeoting the rates of pay or conditions of work of members of the sec ond division of the staff of the New Zealand Railways Department as may bo brought before them by or on behalf of the management of the department or by or on behalf of the Amalgamated (Society of Railway Servants. The Wages Board thus constituted is to report to the Minister not later than April 30th next. The order of reference makes provision, as under, for joint or several reports:—“Provided, nowevei, that if and whenever all of you shall not be of tho same opinion in respect of any of the aforesaid matters each, of you shall report your opinion thereon either severally or jointly with any other or others of you holding the same opinion in respect’ of such matter in each case respectively.” The chairman of the hoard, who is a member of the firm of Wilding, K.C , and Aoland, Christohurcli, is due to arrive in Wellington on Sunday morning from Christchurch; and it is expected that a preliminary meeting at any rate of the board will be held next week.
