Mr John Farrell, who has served the Auckland Education Hoard so faithfully as architect for a number of years, having resigned, the board recently called for applications for the vacancy, and received 21, of which one was from the United States. Macdonald, the youngest son of Dr William Macdonald, who was one oil the rectors of the Otago Boys’ High Sohool. Deceased was educated at Otago Boys' High School, where he took a prominent part in football and crioket. He was well-known as on oarsman, winning the senior double sculls with Mr J. McGrath. He served his business cpprenticeehip with Rattray and Son. nid in 1900 left for South Africa, where he acted os Mr Abe Bailey’s right-hand man for some years in Bhodesia and then entered into business on his own acoount.
