MAORI WAR GRAVES

GOVERNMENT PUTTING CEMETERIES IN REPAIR. A good deal of attention ia being given by the Government to the keeping in order of the graves of the men who fought in the early Maori wars in New Zealand. In many instances the expenditure of a few pounds has been the means of preventing some of these historical burial-places disappearing from view. There is a cemetery at Rangiriri, on the banks of the Waikato river, in which are buried many Maori war veterans. Recently, when tha Hon. R. F. Bollard (Minister for Internal Affaire) visited this burialground he found that it had been allowed to drift into a very unkempt state, high grass and blackberry covering several of the headstones. Arrangements are now being made by the Government to put the cemetery in order.
