Haring taken £4 from her mother’s room, and spent most of it on a day’s outing at New Brighton, a email nine-year-old girl continued to Have a good time with money taken from a hoarder’s room. The child appeared at the Juvenile Court, on charges of stealing 30s and 235. She was to have appeared on Saturday, but ran away from her mother. After being brought to court, she pleaded not guilty to the first charge, hut admitted having taken 5s of the 235.

Police evidence was given that the child had admitted stealing 7s 6d and 0s from the money-box of a boardei at her grandmother’s place. The child’s mother stated that the girl had taken £4 from a dressingtable and gone to New Brighton. She returned with £1 8s 9d, having spent the remainder during the day. The child sometimes came home at 9 or 10 o’clock of an evening. “This is a sorry state of things altogether,” said the magistrate. “The very fact that the girl can go to a dressing-table and take £4 shows that she is not under control. Her parents will not look after the child, so I suppose we will have to.” An order was made committing the child to the Christchurch Receiving Home,
