VISIT OF FLEET
ENTERTAINMENT OF MEN,
LOCAL BODY EXPENSES TO BE .VALIDATED. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, March 19. The Mayor of Oamaru (Mr J. McDiarmid) has received a communication from the Under-Seorotary for Internal Affairs stating, in connection with the visit of the Imperial squadron, that H.Mff. Dunedin will arrive at Dun-, edin on April 30th and depart therefrom on May Bth. “The Government propose to give the captain, officers, and men of the Bhip an opportunity of seeing something of the country, and I am directed by the Minister for Internal Affairs to inquire whether, in the event of a trip being arranged to Oamaru for, say, 200 officers and men, your council and citizens would be prepared to provide a luncheon and entertainment during the few hours that they would le at Oamaru. “I am pleased to state that the Government will validate any expense incurred by local bodies in connection with the entertainment of the officers and men of the squadron. The date suggested for the visit to Oamaru is Friday, May 2nd.” Masterton Borough Council has agreed to entertain 50 officers, and 400 men from the Naval Squadron on its arrival in Wellington 5.t a cost of approximately £2OO.
