“ UNFAIR IMPOSITION”
M.P. CAUGHT NAPPING. EFFECT OP POWER BOARD LEGISLATION. Councillor Temple took strong exception at the Masterton Borough Council meeting on Tuesday night to the legislation which ia in force giving Electno Power Boards the right heavily rate no-consumers of electricity. Councillor Temple said that he believed that the legislation was introduced at the instance of the Southland Power Board. He had spoken to the member for the district on the subject. The latter had admitted having been caught napping when the legislation was going through, and that it was a most /unfair imposition. Councillor Temple said that because a ratepayer did not care to take, or was unable to pay to install electno light, he was liable to a penalty of from 5s up to £3O a year. This was on infringement of the liberty of the subject, and contrary altogether to the spirit of the democratic age m which they lived. The council was heartily in accord with Councillor Temple’s remarks.
