COURT REVELATIONS DAMAGES FOR MALICIOUS PROSECUTION. WOMAN AWARDED £4OO. Per Press Association. HAMILTON, March 7. In the Supreme Court Katherine O’Donoghue, trained nurse, of Auckland, sued David Corban, storekeeper, of Te Kuiti, for £SOO damages for alleged malicious prosecultion. Evidence was given that the parties met in Auckland, where defendant, under promise of marriage, induced plaintiff to visit Te Kuiti to see his house, stating the wedding was delayed till the arrival of the Jewish Rabbi. Later defendant induced plaintiff to live with him as his wife, still under the promise of marriage. Learning he was a married man with several children, she left him, taking with her the presents given her. Defendant then had her arrested for Stealing the presents, and she was thrown into the lock-up for eighteen hours. Tho charge of theft was dismissed. Plaintiff contended this malicious prosecution was taken for revenge, because she would not return to defendant. The jury awarded plaintiff £4OO damages.
