STRIKES IN EGYPT
RAIDS MADE ON COMMUNISTS. POLICE KEPT BUSY. i Published in "The Times." LONDON. March 5The Cairo correspondent of “The Times” says that strikes amd the occupation of factories by workers continue to be the order of the day at Alexandria. A day seldom passes, without new trouble, though, hitherto, there have been no instances of serious violence, excepting when the golice were overpowered in attempting to prevent strikers from entering a soap factory. A struggle ensued, in which several were injured on both sides. Reinforcements of police surrounded the factory, and eventually the strikers were persuaded to leave peacefully. The Vacuum' Oil Company’s workmen struck yesterday, and endeavoured to seize the depot, which the police prevented. Rains on houses of supposed Communists continue, with a few arrests.
