MELBOURNE MURDERS
WHERE IS LIST ? NOT DEAD SAY POLICE. MAY BE IN COUNTRY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received January 29, 11.35 p.m.) MELBOURNE, January 29. The preponderance of the detectives' opinion, founded presumably on the result of investigations, is that List has not committed suicide. They think that he has possibly gone into the country where he may obtain a gun, and for that reason they advise people to be specially alert and to assist the police as much as possible.
NO SIGN YET.
WHOLE STATE AROUSED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received January 29, 11.45 p.m.) MELBOURNE, January 29. Many stories of men resembling List have been received by the police, who are not neglecting possible clues. They have had many wild goose chases, but so far there lias been no definite trace of the accused found. The enormity of the crime has so aroused the whole State that there is little chance of his escape if he is recognised.
