THAT BALANCE-SHEET “STILL IN THE HANDS OF THE AUDITOR.” RECEIPTS TOTAL £2OOO. ' The balance sheet relating to th* Eastbourne gala held early last year ia still in the nands of the auditor, Mr Marsden, a “Times” reporter was informed by Councillor Dawson, of Eastbourne Borough Council, on Friday. The pressman had just been examining the report of the returning officer, Mr Dawson, which was hanging on the wall of the Council chamber, and which was dated January 3rd. 1923. This was the report of the election of the queen at the Queen Carnival, and gave the daily progress report and the positions of the four queens, with a summary of the final position and the financial result. This states that the number of votes cast was 159,593 of the value of £1332 13s 10d. “This sum was paid into the carnival accounts by me at that time” said Councillor Dawson, “and I hold the Te. ceipt for it.” “Have you any idea what the total receipts of the carnival were?” Councillor Dawson was asked. Councillor Dawson replied that he believed that over £2OOO was handled, but from what 'he could remember the balance-sheet submitted showed a deficit of a few pounds. No balance sheet had been issued to the public. QUEEN CARNIVAL RESULT.

I6t; Eastbourne Borough Council, Miss Vera Short, 38.587 votes, value £321 11s 2d, 2nd; Plunket Society, Mrs H. Jowett, 37.137 votes, value £309 9s 6d, 3rd: Sports, Miss M. H. Brown. 31,583 votes, value £263 3s lOd, 4th.
