“TRUSTS OR POOLS ?"
GOVERNMENT POLICY. HURDLE FOR CITY YI P ’a. Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, January 23. Sir John Luke, member for Wellington North, and Lady Luke, who are on holidays in the South Island, when interviewed said he thought the Labour triumph in Britain would be reflected in New Zealand. The British result, he stated, was due to extraordinary circumstances and unparalleled in New Zealand. He was satisfied the Reform Government would survive for a considerable period. Sir John predicted that the Hon. W. F. Ylassey would have an enthusiastic reception on his return to New Zealand. Though complimenting the Hon. W. Nosworthy on his honest efforts to assist the primary industries Sir John Luke, said: “I wish particularly to say that the trusts or rools for meat, wheat, and butter with which the Government has been associated have made difficulties for some Reform representatives in the cities.” Sir John Luke strongly advocated a policy for the development of secondary industries by providing additional avenues of employment in the towns which would react, beneficially, upon the primary industries.
