“UTTER BOSH"
EDUCATIONAL MATTERS MR WALLACE’S REPLY TO MR OAUGHLEY’S CHALI SNGE. “AFRAID TO DO ANYTHING ” Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, January 23. Mr Wallace, chairman of the Education Board, in replying to Mr Canghley’s challenge of a month ago re his statement that the whole business of the Education Department seemed stuck up in the Hon. C. J. Parr’s absence, said this was only a side remark in connection with the Forbury plans, but he had other matters in mind, such as the dental school, Forbury verandah, and the new scale of teachers’ salaries. The dental school delay was admitted by Mr Caughley, and a telegram that had now boen received from Ylr Parr showed the department had been afraid to do anything at Forbury in the matter till he returned. The hoard agreed to the scale of salaries two months ago, but was asked to consider communications private till Ylr Parr returned, so that was quite sufficient authority for his remark. It was just a remark, he said, not a complaint, and the board was being well treated by the department.
The Hon. G. J. Anderson’s remark that the statement was made to discredit the Government was utter bosh, as he personally nominated a Reform candidate at the General Election.
