PRICES ABOUT SAME. A astral ian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reoeived January 23, 9.20 p.m.) LONDON, January 23. Wool sales.—Bl77 bales of Australian wool and 4328 of New Zealand were offered. There was a good selection of greasy, scoured, and merinos, and a fair lot of crossbreds. No fine wools were offered. There was a moderate attendance, the railway strike causing some absentees and animated competition. Faulty merinos were a per cent, above December prioes. and good per cent. All prices were practically the same as at Liverpool laiit week.

The Bank of New Zealand, produce department, has received the following advice from its London office, under date 22nd inst:—“The sales have opened with strong competition and a large attendance of buyers. There is a good demand for all kinds of wool. Prices are higher for: Merino, ljd to lid per lb; crossbred. 2d to 24d per lb.*’

New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 22nd inst.:—“Wool sales—There was a full attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home and Continental buyers being keen, and pricee as compared with the close of preceding series ruled about 5 per cent, higher for merino and about 15 per cent, higher for crossbred. The opening catalogues were representative.'' Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd., are in receipt of the following wool market cablegram from their London agents, dated 22nd inst. : —“Sales have opened with animation, large attendance of buyers; competition brisk; all sections operating. Greasy merino advanced sto 7J per cent.; scoured merino advanced 7J to 10 per cent.; crossbred greasy, fine, advanced 5 to 10 per cent.; crossbred greasy, medium, advanced 15 to 20 per cent. ; crossbred, greasy, coarse, advanced 15 to 20 per cent.; crossbred, scoured, advanced 10 per cent.; slipe crossbred advanced 10 per cent.’’ Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cablegram from their London house, under date the 22nd inst.:—“Wool sales opened. Attendance of buyers is large ; competition animated ; selection good. As compared with last sale’s closing rates at Lon don, prices are as follow: For merinos, generally Id to ljd higher; fine crossbreds, 2d higher; for medium and c.-oarse crossbreds, iid to 2Jd higher; for halfbred wools, 2d higher.’’ Messrs Levin and Co., Lid., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated January 22nd, 1924: “Auctions opened here to-day with a large attendance of buyers. Competition is keen. As compared with the closing rates of the last series:—Merinos, Id; fine crossbreds. 50‘56’s. 2d; halfbreds, 48/50’s, 2’.d; fine crossbreds. 46/48’s, 2jd; medium crossbreds. 41'40’s, 2d; coarse crossbreds. !0 44’s, 2d ; low crossbreds, 36/40's, 2d per lb dearer.”
