PACIFIC CABLE

BILL NOW PROPOSED BETTER CONTROL SOUGHT. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reoeived January 23, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, January 22. The Pacific Cable Beard has prepared a hill which it is hoped to introduce early with the object of making the board more independent of the British Treasury, and more directly under the control of the partner Governments. The proposals also reduce the number of the Imperial Government’s representatives to the same as allowed to Canada and Australia, and places the appointment of the chairman in the board’s hands. It further limits the duration of the chairman’s office, and also provides for his increased remuneration, and for payment of allowances to such members as do not hold any office of profit under the Crown or in the Dominion Governments. Provision is also made to enable the board to establish cable communication by means of wireless stations at the West Indies.
