STERLING RECOVERS
SPECULATION CAUSES FALL. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received January 23, 10.10 p.m.) NEW YORK, January 22. Sterling has reached 4.23, gaining two and a half cents over yesterday. Bankers assert that the recent fluctuations in sterling are largely ascnbable to speculative transactions since the political uncertainties kept commercial dealings to a minimum abroad while appreciably reducing them here.
