HOROWHENUA NOTES
, (Special to “N.Z. Times.’’) Mr C. Newham, cinema operator, and members of the Chamber of Commerce, visited the Otaki Gorge for the purpose of taking views for the boosting campaign. Luckily, the elements were very favourable, ana Mr Newham secured some lovely pictures. Hie programme now is complete, and in the course of three weeks the films will be tried. A number of bank-notes, chiefly of high value, and split in half, are m circulation, and the public should be careful when 'handling them. During an interval at tbe pictures Mr j. p. Brandon (Mayor) announced that as the result of the art union, organised by Mrs Ralph Thomson, for the funds of the Otaki Band, has yielded a profit of about JE2O. This he considered a most creditable performance, and paid a ■high tribute to the fine work done by both Mr and Mrs Thomson, who he said had always assisted in any object for the good of the town. “For they are Jolly Good Fellows" and cheers followed. Results of the drawing, supervised by Constable Shannon, were as follow: First prize, T. Fletcher, Paraparaumu Beach; second, R. Mitchell, Harley street, Nelson; third, A. Smith, Otaki; fourth, C. H. Pyke, Wyndyard street, Auckland; fifth, Mr Baxter. Otaki; sixth, Miss Joyce Giles, Woodville; seventh, Mrs Jackson, Tinakori road, Wellington; eighth. N. Hasse, Nelson.
