EASTBOURNE GALA

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. Members of the East bo ume Gala Executive Committee met this week. Mr T. Auton occupied the chair, and there was a full muster of all members. The secretary (Mr C. S. Winny) reported on the arrangements made in connection with music for both day and evening, and also in regard to the various side-shows, of which there are to be a considerable number. The treasurer (Mr C. McCarlie) and members of the financial committee closely reviewed the financial 6ide of the gala, dealing in particular with the amount it is proposed to finally spend. Reports were also forthcoming in connection with advertising and publicity matters. Mr S'. Fisher, who has charge of the erection of the huge dance floor, which is to be a feature of the whole affair, stated that properly seasoned timber had been procured, and would be on the Recreation Ground in the course of the next day or two. He stated that as the gala was being conducted for the purpose of raising money to build a football gymnasium, all timber purchased had been procured at such sizes that it may be used in the later building,, thus saving considerably on the general cost of the gala. Mr Fisher donated all the nails required during the building of booths and dance floor, and the football club, who was sponsoring the gala, had received many donations of cakes, fancy work, and gifts suitable for disposing of in various ways, of which there was 6till need for more gifts in this direction. The sports programmes, reported the ground supervisor, which were of a varied nature, had been well received by athletes and dancers generally, and entries were expected to be large.
