PLANTATIONS DEVASTATED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, December 18. The Rcvi Mr Godfrey, who returned from the New Hebrides by the Southern Cross to-day, states that a hurricano struck tho group on December 2nd devastating the coconut, yam, and banana plantations. Many cutters wore washed ashore, but only two lives, those of native boys, were lost. Arrangements for relief were made at Vila, the commercial centre of the group.

Native huts were levelled in all directions, and tlie Rev Mr Teall’s home was blown down. Mountainous seas washed the shores of the. island. Branches of trees were whirled in the air like straws.
