Complaints were made at the meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board that a number of contributing local bodies had not yet paid a reasonable portion of their levies, although eight months of the financial year had passed. Mr A. G. Dent said that the farmers throughout the Waikato were doing well, and that if they were not able to pay their rateß to the local bodies now they never would he able to pay them. It was decided to press the local bodies for the payment of their contributions.
“No attempt at all is being made to bring the claims of Auckland as a pleasure resort and business centre before visitors to the Empire Exhibition,” declared the Hon. G. Fowlds at the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. Many other and less important centres had given attention to this matter, hut so far Auckland had not made a move. Mr R. U. Stewart said a member of the Seattle Chamber had informed him that, in addition to a membership fee of £5, he had to pay £l2 annually to advertise Seattle.
The younger men’s division of the Y.M.C.A. has organised a holiday trip to To-ngariro National Park for Christmas and the New Year. Besides the three mountains, Tongariro. Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu, there are the ioe oaves! glaciers, snowfielde, and thermal springs. It is tram wing ground, and an ideal place’ for a holiday. Tho trin is to occupy a week. The party will number between 12 and 20, and those who go will require blankets, tramping gear, toilet gear, and to carry their quota of supplies and equipment-
