MAGISTRATE'S COURT

YEBTERDAY’B SITTING POLICE AND MAINTENANCE CASES Yesterday’s session of the Magistrate’s Court was presided over by Mr C. R. OrrWalkor, S.M.. when police and maintenance cases were dealt with. Three first offending inebriates were ordered to forfeit the amount of their bail, 10s each. DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. Charles Styles, 36 years of age, was charged with insobriety on his third nppearanoe The accused was also charged with breaking a window, valued at Bs, the property of Symons Nausbaum, of 13a, Cotterville terrace. Sub-Inspector Cummings said that the accused went to the house in question, on Saturday afternoon, when the house was unoccupied! Finding nobody in, the accused smashed the window. On the first charge of insobriety, the accused was fined £2. in default seven days’ imprisonment, and was fined 8s and £1 expenses, in default 18 hours’ imprisonment on the eecond charge. Time was given in which to pay. QUALIFYING FOR PAKATOA. Constance Flemming, with two previous Convictions for drunkenness, was charged with procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. Sub-Inspector Cummings stated that on the accused's last appearance in the court, a prohibition order had been taken out against her. His Worship considered the cast a fit one for the "island,” but decided to stand the case down to to-day to enable farther inquiries to be made. MAINTENANCE CASES. James Warren Williams (arrears £lO 10s) was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, the warrant to he suspended so long as 12s 6d per week ie paid. William John Lee wae ordered to contribute £1 10s per week towards the support of his children. A similar order was made in the case of Wilfrid Stephenson, who was further ordered to settle a claim for .£SB 15s for past maintenance by paying £25 forthwith, and the remainder at the rato of £1 ner week. Broom Vines was directed to pay £3 10s towards the support of his wife and children.
