VICE-REGAL The Governor-General, Lord Jellicos* unveiled the war memorial at Cambridge on Tuesday afternoon, and His Excellency presented the prizes at ths breaking-up ceremony of the -lona College, Hawke’s Bay, on W ednesday evening. He will perform a similar function at Woodford House School on Saturday. On Sunday His Excellency will unveil the war memorial at Taradale. and pay a visit to the Old Peoples' Home at Parke Island. Accompanied by the Hon. Myrtle and the Hon. Xorah Jellicoe. His Excellency will return to Auckland on Tuesday morning next. Mr P. A. Brett, of London, arrived by the Makura at Auckland. Mr T. M. Bnrke, of Sydney, is visiting the Dominion. The Hon. G. J. Smith, M.L.C., of Christchurch, is at Auckland. Mr E. C. Gillon is at Dunedin on railway departmental business.. Colonel A. R. Young, of WeUiußton, Is in the south. Lieut.-Colonel W. Harrison, of London, accompanied by Mrs and the Misses Harrison, arrived by the Makura. Mr and Mrs P. A. Chappell and Messrs W. Yatman and L. McNab, of Brisbane; Mr and Mrs Marcus Collins, of Geelong, and Mr and Mrs Clarence Edwards. Mr and Mrs F. Waddington and Mr, Mrs and Miss Cram, of Sydney, are visitors to the Dominion. Mr E. C. Cut ten, S.M., of Auckland, has been appointed chairman of the Licensing Committee for Auckland, Waitemata and Parnell, in place of Mr J. W. Poynton, S.M., recently transferred to Wellington. The death ol Mr Alfred Norris was referred to at the meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union last evening, Mr S. 8. Dean (chairman) moving a resolution of eympathy with Mr Norris’s relatives, which was carried. Mr Josephus Hargreaves Richardson, of Khandallah, retired Government Insurance Commissioner, has been appointed a member of the Discharged Soldiers’ Dominion Revaluation Board, under the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Amendment Act. The following promotion in the New Zealand Naval Forces is recorded in last night’s "Gazette” :—Chief Writer Jack Evans Hamilton. D.S.M., promoted to acting-Warrant Writer, and appointed to tt.M.S. Chatham, additional for dnty at Navy office, Wellington, to date October Ist, 1923. Mr F. Stubbs, F.R.G.S. (mentioned is yesterday’s “Times”), who recently returned from a four years’ journey in: Europe and tho Fa* East, and has just' given several addresses in this city on his travels, has left for the south, Mr Stubbs has lectured on New Zealand ini every other English-speaking, country, and ie now tonring the Dominion in order to renew his Knowledge and impressions of this country. Major-General G. S. Richardson, A& ministrator of Western Samoa, left Auckland by the Tofua on his return to Apia.. During his stay at Auckland General Richardson conferred with representatives: of the New Zealand Government in respect to certain important administrative questions of policy. On returning to Samoa, the official report of the conference will be submitted to the local Administrative Conncil. An interested visitor to New Zealand with the Administrator was Mr K. Tunu, the official interpreter to the Administration. He was connected with headquarters in Samoa In 1913 at the time of the German regime, and later transferred his services to the New Zealand Administration. Before leaving he expressed Us appreciation of the kindness of the Y.M.C.A. and Government officials who showed him a little of the world on his first voyage beyond Samoa.
