AT GISBORNE
DISTRICT REQUIREMENTS. CONSIDERATION NEEDED. Per > ; rp« Association. GISBORNE, November 24. The Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister for Public Works, arrived overland from Napier last evening, and left this morning for the Waiapu district. Returning to Gisborne on Monday, the Minister leaves for the Urewera Country, via Hangaroa. . Deputations from local bodies presented district requirements in road and railway matters, strongly urging the authorised Hangaroa route for the railway from Gisborne southwards, in preference to the coastal route now being surveyed.. The Minister declared the position required thorough and considerate thought, and not bustle where the expenditure of a million pounds was involved. It was absolutely essential that care should he taken until the purveys were completed. He could say no more.
