YESTERDAY'S BITTINQ HEAVY ÜBT OP CASES. A heavy list of police and summons oases was disposed of at the Magistrate's Court yesterday by Mr EL Page. S-M. John Thomas Craik, who failed to' make an appearance for his second lapse from eobriety, was fined the amount of his bail. Pleading guilty to chaises of vagrancy. MichaM Downey, aged 85, und Andrew Johnson, aged 84, were oaoh convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within twelve months. Having been brought from Christchurch on a charge of stealing XI belonging to Ernest Blaokmore, Cyril Boulton, aged 22, was reffianded to the 30th inst. for sentence, Chief-Detective Kemp intimating that in all probability further changes of a similar nature would be preferred against him. A sentence of two years’ reformative detention, to be served concurrently with a similar sentence already being undergone, was passed on Charles Patrick McAllister, aged 23, who was charged with the theft at Papakura of a bndle and saddle, valued at XB, the property of Thomas Duncan Campbell, and two similar pieces of harness, valued at X 4, belonging to Charles Edward Finch. SUMMONS CASES. Appearing on summons, Bertie Daniel Mahoney was fined X 4 and costs for illtreating a horse; the owner, James Carroll, was recommended to pay the fine. The unusual request that sho be returned to Pakatoa Island was made by a middle-aged woman, Catherine Beggs, who, being charged with the breach of a prohibition order, declared that she was unabl i to withstand _ the temptation to drink. Her request ia to be acceded to. On a similar charge, and for her second breach, Elizabeth Kilminster was convicted and discharged. Patrick Joseph Sheeby, for a similar laipce, was fined Xl,and costs. Judged to be the owner of a dangerous dog, Emily Frances Curtis was ordered to destroy the animal. Percy Herbert Hayward, for keeping his shop open on Sunday for trading purposes, was fined XI and costs.
