The gaoler surprised 10 playing “Monte.” » gambling game forbidden since the recent coup d’etat-. I lie players were shut in the punishment cells, though they loudly protested that “Monte” bad been allowed in Spanish prisons since time immemorial The other inmate? joined in the protest, and attacked the warders with knives. The warders retaliated, using revolvers and bayonets. A number were wounded. When the mutiny was quelled a most cetera regime was instituted.
The prirenors are now petitioning the Directorate;- complaining of the tyranny of the new regime, saying it for bids gambling, which ig the principal nmuemnent of the prison, and asking it to restore their old-time liberties.
