CYCLE TRADERS’ RACE
A TOUGH CONTEST. The Victorian cycle traders’ race from Sale to Melbourne (121 miles), decided recently, proved the toughest race of the year, as the 144 starters had. to contend with a stiff head wind l practically from start to finish. The event was tile first long distance cycling contest hold over this section of the Prince’s Highway, and attracted great I interest along the refite. In *a dose finish C. B. Cameron (30min) won by 1 1 a length from the old-time wheel-race
winner, A. C. Colvin (30min), with V. IV, Voung (37min) third. They took Bhrs 20min 12sec to cover the 121 miles. There was a great race for fastest time amongst the scratch men, who at one period of the race looked i like overhauling the long markers, H. ' Opperman winning in 7hrs 54mm 32 s see. Tlio riders named all rode Dunlop tyres. The severity of the contest can 1 be judged from the slow time made. 5 even the scratch men only averaged a s shade over 15 miles per hour.
